In the 44th match of IPL 2023, the Gujrat Titans faced off against the Delhi Capitals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The toss was won by Delhi Capitals’ captain David Warner, who elected to bat first with the aim of posting a big total on the board.
Delhi Capitals’ Innings
DC opened their innings with the pair of Warner and Phil Salt, but Salt was dismissed on the very first ball of the innings by Gujrat’s Mohammad Shami, going out for a golden duck. Priyam Garg took his place at the crease but was soon joined back in the pavilion by his skipper, Warner, who was run out by Rashid Khan after scoring just two runs.
Riley Rossouw came in next for Delhi, but he too was unable to make much of an impact as he fell to Shami, with Wriddhiman Saha taking a great catch. Shami was in great form and went on to take two more wickets in his third over, removing Manish Pandey and Garg off the first and last ball of the over respectively. As a wicket keeper, Wriddhiman Saha supported him by taking both catches. With this spell, Shami had effectively dismantled the top order of Gujrat Titans.
However, Axar Patel and Aman Khan put up a crucial partnership of 50 runs for Delhi Capitals, with DC needing a good partnership at that stage. Mohit Sharma eventually dismissed Axar Patel, who had scored 27 runs off 23 balls, hitting 2 fours and a six in his innings. Khan was still scoring runs for Delhi, but Rashid Khan sent him back to the pavilion after he had scored his maiden IPL half-century, hitting three fours and three sixes in his 51-run knock. Ripal Patel added 23 runs off 13 balls to the total, and Delhi finished their innings on 130 runs for the loss of 8 wickets.
Gujrat Titans Top Order Collapse
In response to the total, Gujrat opened their innings with Saha and Shubman Gill. However, Delhi took an early wicket by dismissing Saha in the first over itself, with Khaleel Ahmed getting the better of him without conceding any runs. Skipper Hardik Pandya came in at number three and tried to rebuild the innings with Gill. But Gill fell to Anrich Nortje in the third over after scoring just six runs.
Vijay Shankar and David Miller were unable to add much to the scorecard, with Ishant Sharma dismissing Shankar and Kuldeep Yadav accounting for Miller on a golden duck. The skipper was still at the crease and struggling to keep the scoreboard ticking. However, he found an able partner in Abhinav Manohar, with the duo putting up a partnership of 62 runs for the fifth wicket. Manohar scored 26 runs off 33 balls before he was sent back to the pavilion by Khaleel Ahmed.Visit our partners, shoes – leaders in fashionable footwear!
Gujrat Titans Struggle to Chase Target
In the final overs, Rahul Tewatia came to the crease and hit three consecutive sixes off Nortje’s over, bringing some hope for Gujrat. However, Sharma dismissed him after he had scored 20 runs off just seven balls. In the end, Gujrat fell short by just five runs, losing the match to Delhi Capitals.
