Kolkata Knight Riders defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad by five runs in IPL 2023 | KKR vs SRH

In the 47th match of IPL 2023, Kolkata Knight Riders secured a five-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. Kolkata posted a total of 171 on the scoreboard in 20 overs for nine wickets, while SRH failed to chase the target of 172, resulting in their ninth defeat of the IPL season.

KKR’s Innings:

KKR won the toss and elected to bat first. However, their opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz was out on his first ball on a golden duck. Marco Jansen took his wicket in the first ball of the second over of the innings. In the same over, Venkatesh Iyer was also caught by Heinrich Klaasen at 7 runs. Jason Roy scored 20 runs off 19 balls with four fours before Kartik Tyagi took his wicket.

After early wicket fall, Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh made a good partnership of 61 runs. Rana scored 42 runs off 31 balls, hitting three sixes and three fours in his innings. While Rinku Singh made 46 runs in 35 balls with four fours and one six. Andre Russel scored 24 runs off 15 balls with one four and two sixes. Despite early wicket fall, KKR’s batters were able to score a total of 171 to set a decent target for their bowlers.

For SRH, Marco Jansen and T Natarajan took two wickets each, while all the other bowlers succeeded in taking one wicket each.

SRH’s Innings:

In chase, SRH started their innings with Abhishek Sharma and Mayank Agarwal. Mayank Agarwal was sent back to the pavilion by Harshit Rana at 18 runs in the third over of the innings. He hit 2 fours and 1 six in 11 balls. Abhishek Sharma joined Mayank in the pavilion when he was out by Shardul Thakur on 9 runs. Andre Russel took the wicket of Rahul Tripathi, who scored quick 20 runs of 9 balls with 3 fours and 1 six.

Captain Aiden Markram played a 41-run innings off 40 balls, hitting 4 fours. Harry Brook was out by LBW by Ankul Roy. Heinrich Klassen hit 36 runs in just 20 balls with one four and 3 sixes, while Abdul Samad made 21 runs off 18 balls with 3 fours.
